Is Apple The New Nintendo?
Photographers say, "the best camera is the one that is with you." The same may be said about your mobile-gaming platform of choice , like Apple's iOS on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
Apple's tablet and smartphone devices continue to sweep the nation, making the company the biggest in the world since last year. Nintendo is also run by some extremely accomplished people, and the company works with some of the most gifted personalities on the planet. You'd believe the gaming giant would see the benefits of mixing its powers with Apple, but Nintendo's president lately said that his company will never develop games or applications for the iOS platform. It's not even something the Japanese company would consider. Now, as the Nintendo 3DS isn't able to catch up to the success of recent mobile and non-mobile consoles, the iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone have become household names.
In fact , more people now game on iOS devices than mobile consoles, making iOS the mobile platform to beat. That's true although Apple's devices aren't the best hardware for gaming, but these devices are the best and most suitable to access. Like the famous phrase suggests, the best tool is the one that is with you; after all, better tools are useless if you do not have accessibility to them when you want them.
When you mix that success with the high-quality games and companies that sell in the iTunes App Store, you have got all of the ingredients you'd need for the "next Nintendo".
Now, I know what you are thinking; touchscreen displays are not the best control mechanisms for most games. That is true, but most people don't seem to care. And, a sprinkle of practice goes a good way, and I think the majority of people know that. If you absolutely need a controller, it's usually possible to connect a Bluetooth arcade stick or game pad to your machine. Need a bigger display? IOS devices can send a video signal wirelessly to any display hooked up to an Apple TV, or you can hook it up directly over HDMI.
All of unexpected, my PS3 and Xbox 360 don't seem so special any longer. Still, I'd drool all over the PS Vita, though I do not feel compelled to buy one because of my iPhone and iPad.
